Central, Farmington Advance to MAAA Championship Game

The MAAA Tournament Baseball Semifinals were played yesterday at Yanks’ Field in Ste. Genevieve.  The first matchup saw the one seed Valle Catholic Warriors take on the four seed Central Rebels.  Both teams traded zeroes early on, but it was Valle Catholic who would strike first in the middle innings.

Valle Catholic would lead until the sixth, when Central answered in a big way.

After regaining the lead, Central decided to throw Casen Murphy on the mound for the first time in a while, and he proceeded to throw two shutout innings, earning a save and giving the Rebels a trip to the MAAA Championship with a 3-2 win over Valle Catholic.  Manager Ronnie Calvird talks about what he told his team before that sixth inning.

In the second game of the evening, the Farmington Knights routed North County 10-0 in 6 innings. Farmington consistently got runners on the bags, and a big swing from Connor Rice in the fifth gave the Knights firm control of the game.

Rice went 1-for-3 at the plate, but reached base three times with 2 RBIs. He also scored a run in the contest. Knights manager Logan Winder describes his team’s performance.

Knights pitcher Colton Crump struck out six batters in the win. Zak Meador takes the loss for the Raiders. Farmington will face Central at Elvins Field in Park Hills tomorrow. First pitch of the MAAA Championship will be at 3 on AM-800 KREI.
