Central Girls Crowned MAAA Champions, West County Girls And Potosi Boys Take 3rd Place

(Park Hills) The Central Lady Rebels’ defense proved too much for Farmington to handle in the MAAA girls championship game. Number one seed Central took home the title in a 45-30 victory over the two seed Knights.

Farmington led 3-2 early on but never led again. It was an all-out team effort from the Rebels with Halle Richardson leading the way by scoring 13 points and Allysa O’Connor giving 12 points…

Farmington went on a 9-0 run to close the first half and make it a four point ball game, but Central outscored their rivals 20-9 in the second half.

Central coach Josh Mapes says it feels good to call the Rebels champions…

Central improves to 20-3 this season. Farmington are now 19-4.


In the girls third place game, three seed West County held off a late rally from five seed North County to win 38-34. West County jumped out to an 11 point lead to open the fourth quarter, their largest of the game…

The lead was suddenly cut to four in the closing minutes. North County’s Alyssa Ludwig hit four three pointers, two of them in the fourth quarter.

West County did enough at the end of the game to hold on for the win. Bailey Skiles led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Coach Bobby Simily praised North County for making it a tough finish…

West County improves to 19-4. North County are now 11-11.


In the boys’ third place game, Gabe Brawley scored 26 points to lead Potosi to a 63-54 victory over Valle Catholic. Potosi led for the entirety of the second half, with Brawley and others scoring crucial buckets down the stretch to keep Valle Catholic from tying the game or taking the lead.

After the game, Potosi head coach Jackson Conaway said his team welcomed the opportunity to play such a close game.

Potosi improves to 18-5 while Valle Catholic is now 14-8.
