Central. Hillsboro, South Iron, and Farmington advance to Seachrest Tournament Final 4

The boys quarterfinal round of the 68th Annual Bob Seachrest Christmas Tournament was played Thursday evening. The action started with the host and top-seed Central Rebels facing the 9-seed Steelville Cardinals. Steelville only trailed by 10 at halftime, but the Rebels heated up in the second half.

Central held on to win 76-55. Jobe Bryant led the Rebels in scoring with 31 points, and Caden Casey tacked on 19.

In the second boys quarterfinal game, there was a showdown between the 5-seed Potosi Trojans and the 4-seed Hillsboro Hawks. Hillsboro had control late in the game, but the Trojans battled back in the fourth quarter.

Kanaan Wilson scored 10 points in the quarter, as Preston Brown iced the game at the free throw line moments later. Hillsboro won 70-63, and were led in scoring by Dom Sutton, who scored 14 points. Potosi’s Carter Whitley led all scorers with 25 points.

The third matchup saw 2-seed South Iron Panthers beat 10-seed DeSoto 66-45. The Panthers never trailed, but the game wasn’t without its wild moments.

South Iron would bounce back from that stunning buzzer beater from Cole McClinton, who finished the night with a team high 14 points, and answered with a statement in the second quarter.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Sawyer Huff, who finished with 24 points. Hunter Huff had 14 rebounds for South Iron.

The nightcap featured 3-seed Farmington against 6-seed Festus. It was another slow-paced, low scoring game with consistent back-and fourth action. Festus led by a point at the end of the third quarter, but Farmington took control for good late in the game.

Maxon Lamonds had 9 fourth quarter points to rally Farmington to a 44-41 win over the Tigers. Cannon Roth led the Knights in scoring with 16 points, and Drew Johnson led Festus with 12 points.

The final four is set, as 1-seed Central faces off against 4-seed Hillsboro. Then, 3-seed Farmington battles 2-seed South Iron. Coverage of the boys semifinal round begins Friday at 5:45 with a 6:00 tip-off on J-98.
