Central loses title-game thriller, Festus & Seckman win to wrap Steighorst Invite

(Hillsboro) The 66th annual Gene Steighorst Invitational wrapped up Saturday on J98 with the Central Rebels coming up just short in the championship game.

Central fell to Eureka 47-43 in a classic championship game.

On a strong defensive night, the Rebels started to wake up on offense in the second half.

Jobe Bryant and Kendall Horton lead Central with 14 points each.

The Rebels tied the game up at 42 going into the final minute, but Eurkea hit the biggest shot of the night.

Central loses the championship game to Eureka for the second straight year, falling to 3-1 this season.

In the third-place game, the Festus Tigers knocked off the Seckman Jaguars 68-63.

Festus lead by as much as 17 in the first half, but Seckman would rally.

But the Tigers would get enough big 3-point shots from senior guard Connor Westhoff.

Westhoff hit 4 triples and scored 16 points off the bench to earn Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Festus improves to 3-2, while Seckman has dropped back-to-back games since starting the season 4-0.

In the consolation game, the Windsor Owls rallied to beat the Hillsboro Hawks 56-49.

Despite trailing at the end of the first quarter, Windsor flipped the script the rest of the way thanks to junior guard Max Hartmann.

Hartmann scored 16 of his team-high 24 points in the second half on his way to the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Windsor moves to 5-2 with the win, while Hillsboro drops to 2-2.
