(Park Hills, Mo.) Coverage of the 64th Annual Bob Sechrest Jr. Christmas Tournament at Central High School continued today on the MyMoInfo SportsStream with four first-round games on the boys’ side of the bracket.

In the first game of the evening, it was the Central Rebels defeating the Potosi Trojans by a final score of 63-36. Central’s Breven McMullen took home Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game thanks to some red-hot shooting from beyond the arc.

Rebels head coach Allen Davis was proud of his team’s defensive effort.

The Rebels advance to the quarterfinals and will be taking on the Steelville Cardinals who defeated the DeSoto Dragons by a final score of 76-48 in the second game of the evening.

The Cards bounced back from a 16-4 run that put the Dragons up 21-17 after a quarter of play and rolled from there. Junior Chase Cottrell and his 17 points earned himself the Applebee’s Player of the game.

Steelville improves to 8-1 while DeSoto drops to 2-8.

It was a dominant performance by the Hillsboro Hawks in the third game of the evening as they cruised to a 67-28 victory over the Perryville Pirates. Hillsboro’s Mark Moore shot the lights out in the game, pouring in 21 points en route to earning Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Hillsboro head coach Dan Johnson says once his team settled into their defensive rhythm in the second quarter they were able to take over the game.

The Hawks will now be taking on the Arcadia Valley Tigers who defeated the Ste. Genevieve Dragons by a final score of 56-47 in the final game of the boys’ first round.

Returning from injury, junior Carter Brogan put the Tigers on his back and more than earned Applebee’s Player of the Game.

AV head coach Ricky Turnbough said his team battled through some self-inflicted mistakes, but needs to clean a few things up.

While the Tigers are now 3-3, the Dragons fall 3-4.

Arcadia Valley joins 7 other area teams who were winners in the first round of the Central Christmas Tournament. The quarterfinals begin Saturday evening with South Iron taking on Jefferson, North County battling Festus, Central facing Steelville and AV colliding with Hillsboro.
