Central Topples East Prairie in Football Season Opener on J-98

(Park Hills) The Central Rebels started the 2020 football season on the right foot tonight at home as they throttled the East Prairie Eagles 43-2 on J98. Dayshawn Welch picked up right where he left off last year with four touchdowns and over 100 rushing yards in week number one. Central started their first drive on the 50 yard line and quickly marched their way down to the 21 yard line where Welch handled the rest.

The question mark coming in to the game was how first year starter at QB Jett Bridges was going to run the offense. Well that question was answered with one quick throw.

Jett Bridges passed for more than 100 yards and 1 touchdown. Central only passed for 489 yards all of last season along with 3 touchdowns. Dayshawn Welch would find the pay dirt 2 more times throughout the game and finally cap off the night with this 38 yard scamper to the end zone.

Welch was our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game. After the game Welch says he was most excited to see some of his teammates who don’t get to play a lot play some on senior night.

Head coach of the Central Rebels Kory Schweiss knows there were a few struggles throughout tonight’s game in terms of penalties and mistakes, but he says all around it was a solid win.

Central moves to 1-0 on the season and will face the runner ups in Class 2 from last year in Scott City next week at home.
