The championship game of the 2019 MAAA Softball Tournament is set after Tuesday’s semifinals as heard on KREI. In semifinal number one, Ivy Meinershagen threw a complete game, slammed an rbi double and scored what would become the winning run as #4 seed West County surprised top seed and number one ranked Potosi 4-2. Jenna Simile provided the winning margin in the sixth.

Bulldogs head coach CJ Wright thought all along that 4 would be the magic number.

Potosi, now 14-1, loses its first game of the year. West County, now 10-5, wins its third straight. In game number two, Central got revenge for a loss earlier this season to Ste. Genevieve as the Rebels pounded the Dragons 16-3. Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game Abbie Mendenhall provided a number of big blows, including the Gilster Mary Lee Drive of the Game.

5 runs in each of the final 2 innings put the win to bed for the Rebels. Head coach Bryan Wallen liked the way his lineup backed up a young starting pitcher in Chloe Coppedge.

Central has won 9 straight to improve to 15-5 while Ste. Genevieve drops to 12-5. The Rebels and the Bulldogs will collide in the MAAA Tournament championship game after Potosi and Ste. Genevieve play for third place. You can hear coverage of both games starting at 5:30 Wednesday night on J98.
