Central Wins Class 3 District 1 30-21 Over Valle

(Ste. Genevieve) The 8th ranked Central Rebels claimed the Class 3 District 1 Championship 30-21 over the Valle Catholic Warriors Friday at Father John Dempsey Field on J-98. The Rebels recovered a fumbled kickoff return from Valle to start the game.  But despite starting at the Valle 27 yard line the Rebels promptly lost 24 yards and then surrendered a score on Valle’s second play….

Bryce Giesler scored the Warriors second touchdown with a 25 yard run in the second.

Central was able to keep pace with two Casen Murphy to Jobe Bryant slant passes for scores. The difference in the first half was a 37 yard Mason Williams field goal with three minutes left….

Central got the ball to start the second half, but lost 15 yards on the possession. Sam Drury returned the ensuing punt to the Central two yard line and Chase Fallert put the Warriors back out front 21-17.

Valle got the ball back and set up for their own field goal attempt when Jobe Bryant changed the game….

The Rebels then clinched the victory with a 91 yard 15 play 7:38 drive for the final margin, 30-21. Coincidentally, the Rebels led the Warriors 30-21 with 9:09 left in their only loss of the season six weeks ago at Valle. That fact was not lost on coach Kory Schweiss….

The Rebels overcame 95 yards in penalties, but were able to create five Valle turnovers.

Schweiss says the strength of his team is its togetherness….

Valle coach Judd Naegar praised Central, but also acknowledged all the work his team put in…

Valle closes the year as the MAFC White Division Champions at 10-1.  Central moves on to the Class Three quarterfinals at 11-1. They play top ranked and undefeated Cardinal Ritter Friday or Saturday in Park Hills. We’ll have the game on J-98.
