Central’s Horton again claims Girls’ Hoops Dream Team Player of the Year

(Park Hills) For the third consecutive year, Sophia Horton of the Central Rebels is the Regional Radio Dream Team Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.

Horton averaged 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists per game on her way to another all-conference, all-district and all-state season, where she also became the Rebels’ all-time leading scorer.

But she says it’s been a long journey to becoming this type of star player.

Horton guided the Rebels to the Class 3 state quarterfinals after winning a third straight district title and adding a monster 44-point game against New Madrid County Central in sectionals.

But her final season in Park Hills was her favorite for more than just the wins.

Horton walks away as not only the highest-scoring player in Central history, but one of its winningest.

And Horton will tell you the source of that success, including another Dream Team Player of the Year honor, comes from those closest to her.

Including districts, Horton won 12 tournaments and 89 total games, averaging almost 17 points per game for her career.
