Central’s Welch Sets Single-Game Rushing Record En Route to Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week Selection

(Park Hills) It was an epic performance in Cedar Hill on Friday night as Central’s Dayshawn Welch ran wild on the Northwest defense.

Welch finished the ballgame with 24 carries for 381 yards and four touchdowns en route to being named the Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

The 381 rushing yards set a new Central single-game rushing record, breaking Tyler Friend’s record of 347 rushing yards that was set back in 2007.

Rebels head coach Kory Schweiss says the team’s o-line carved out the holes and Welch took full advantage.

Welch already had his breakout campaign last year in which he rushed for 1,506 yards, a Central single-season record, and 18 touchdowns.

He was named 1st Team All-Conference and was also the MAFC White Division Offensive MVP.

As great as he was in 2019, he is on pace to absolutely demolish the Central record book in 2020.

Through three games this season, Welch has 61 carries for 759 yards and 10 touchdowns.

That pace would have him finishing the regular season with nearly 2,300 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns.

While it may not be sustainable to rush for 250 yards every Friday night, Welch is sure to have a monster season this year if he stays healthy.

Schweiss tells us what makes Welch so dynamic running the football.

As Athlete of the Week, Welch will receive a T-shirt, a certificate, and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.

The Central football team will be on the road Friday when they travel to Cuba to take on the Wildcats.
