(Jefferson County) As we head deeper into the fall and as temperatures begin to fall lower and lower on the thermometer, fire agencies are reminding people to check and clean their chimney’s or flue’s to help prevent possible house fires.

Mapaville Fire Protection District Chief Dave Brown says it’s a good idea to make sure all heating appliances are cleaned before use.

Hillsboro Fire Protection District Chief Brian Guadet mentions they have already had 2-3 flue fires this season.

In addition, both Chief Brown and Gaudet encourage people to check their smoke & carbon monoxide detectors and make sure the batteries are good.
