Chief Lewis on holiday safety through Christmas and New Year’s holiday weekends

(Jefferson County) Christmas is coming up this Sunday and law enforcement is expecting a busy travel period.

Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis says they will have increased patrols through the holiday weekend.

Outside of daily road patrols, Chief Lewis wants to remind everyone about ongoing scams especially during the holidays.

In addition to local law enforcement, the Missouri State Highway Patrol will have more troopers out on the roads through this holiday weekend as operation C.A.R.E. will be in effect.

The highway patrol’s holiday counting period begins at 6pm on Thursday and ends at 11:59pm on Monday.
