Christmas weekend accidents includes a fatality

(Ste. Genevieve County) A pair of Crystal City residents were injured in a single-vehicle accident in Ste. Genevieve County on Saturday morning. According to the Highway Patrol, 50-year old Melissa Chadd was driving a 2020 Dodge Journey south on Interstate 55 at mile marker 141.8 and traveled off the right side of the road, struck the mile marker sign and a rock bluff. Both Chad and a passenger, 29-year old Matthew Curnell were taken by ambulance to Perry County Memorial, Curnell with minor injuries, and Chad with moderate injuries. The accident took place on Saturday morning around 10:30.

(DeSoto) A Londell woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Route H east of Dry Creek Road in Jefferson County Sunday night. According to the Highway Patrol, 37-year old Amy Veit was driving a 2007 Scion TC, traveled off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected when returning to the road, started skidding across the center line and rotated counterclockwise, and struck a 2020 Dodge Ram driven by 36-year old Joshua Cook of Pevely. Cook and a 12-year old juvenile suffered minor injuries and refused transport on the scene, while Viet was pronounced deceased on the scene by Valle Ambulance personnel. Viet was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident which took place just after 9 o’clock Sunday night.
