(Jefferson County) There are some changes this year to the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) mandatory sampling.

In previous years, hunters who harvest a deer from counties in CWD Management Zones during the opening weekend of the fall firearms portion must take their deer on the day of harvest to a CWD sampling station within that county.

However, KJFF Scenic View Host, John Winkelman, says that is being changed this year.

Winkelman says for those hunters that do plan on getting their deer tested, MDC officials will be taking all the necessary safety precautions at the sampling sites including wear masks and practicing social distancing.

Jefferson County has reported 1 case of CWD each year for the last four years.

Other counties that fall under CWD Management Zones include: St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Washington, Franklin, Crawford and Perry Counties.
