Class 3 District 3 Girls Quarterfinals Preview

The MSHSAA Girls’ District Championship for District 3 of Class 3 is set to begin on Tuesday with three first-round matchups. Four seed Jefferson and five seed Arcadia Valley will open the tournament. Jefferson is 13-12 and defeated Valle Catholic by 39 in their last game. Arcadia Valley is 6-16 on the year and has lost three straight, all against top teams in the region. Arcadia Valley has never lost to Jefferson since MSHSAA began tracking matchup stats in 2009, having won 11 straight against the Blue Jays.

Following the conclusion of that game, two seed St. Pius will take on seven seed Kingston. Kingston is going through a difficult season, sitting at 0-23 and with a short-handed roster, potentially going to the tournament with just five available players. They will take on a St. Pius team with a record of 21-3. However, Kingston head coach Christian Moulton hopes the players he does have will use their underdog status as motivation.

Day one finishes when three seed Grandview faces six seed Clearwater. Grandview comes in at 13-13 but may be missing a key player in Catherine Wakeland when they take on a 3-22 Clearwater team. Grandview head coach Tim Winkler noted the adjustments he’s had to make in her absence.

Top seed West County has received a bye into the second round.
