Class 3 District 3 Girls Semifinals Preview

(Leadwood) Familiar foes will meet in the girls Class 3 District 3 semifinals Thursday evening on J98. Top seed West County will battle with four seed Jefferson then two seed St. Pius will go against three seed Grandview.

Jefferson improved their record to 14-12 after defeating Arcadia Valley on Tuesday, but the Blue Jays will face a stout West County defense. Coach Stevie Holdinghausen says her team needs to control the basketball.

West County are ranked 6th in the state in Class 3 with a record of 20-5. The Bulldogs have beaten Jefferson 15 times in a row dating back to 2010, including a 78-31 win earlier this season. However, West County coach Bobby Simily says that doesn’t guarantee anything…

St. Pius are also ranked in Class 3, coming in at 8th in the coaches polls. The Lancers are on a 16 game winning streak and are 22-3 this season. St. Pius has beaten Grandview twice already this season so coach Aaron Portell says more practice, less film study.

Grandview are 14-13 on the year. The Eagles are led by six-foot-two senior Anna Belle Wakeland who averages 14 points and 14 rebounds per game. Coach Tim Winkler agrees with coach Portell: after two meetings this season, the only thing that matters is what happens on the court on Thursday.

Coverage of the girls Class 3 District 3 semifinals begins at 5:15 on J98 The Boot and MyMoInfo.com.
