(Leadwood)  The opening round of the Class 3 District 3 baseball tournament was played Monday at West County High School and heard on AM 800 KREI and AM 1400 KJFF.

In the first game, the third-seeded St. Pius Lancers shut-out the sixth-seeded Kingston Cougars in six innings, 10-0. The Lancers bats were hot throughout the game with senior Elijah Dale extending the lead in the 5th to 8-0 with this home run.

 

 

That was our Patsy’s Furniture play-of-the-game. Riley Naeger was named the Applebee’s of Farmington Player-of-the-Game after pitching a 6-inning no-hitter. Naeger says that the fastball was clicking.

 

 

St. Pius improves their record to 17-2 while Kingston falls to 6-11.

In the second game, the 2nd-seeded West County Bulldogs defeated the 7th-seeded Grandview Eagles 5-2. The lead went back and forth until West County’s Zach Francis broke the 2-2 tie.

 

 

That was our Patsy’s Furniture play-of-the-game. Peyton Nipper was our Applebee’s of Farmington player-of-the-game. West County tacked on two more runs for the 5-2 victory. The Bulldogs are now 18-6 and winners of 5 of their last 6, advancing to the semis to face St. Pius. Grandview finishes 2019 with a 4-13-1 record.

AV added another run to make it 4-3, but Herky cranked out 6 more to increase their lead to 10-3. Herculaneum improves their record to 11-9-1 while Arcadia Valley falls to 11-10.

The Blackcats will play top seed Jefferson in the semifinals Tuesday afternoon at 2 with the Flieg’s Equipment pre-game show beginning at 1:45 on AM-1400 KJFF.
