(HILLSBORO) The Hillsboro Hawks got the best of the DeSoto Dragons on Thursday in Jefferson County Large Schools baseball action on KJFF, winning 4-3 behind 12 strikeouts from Michael Brewer.

The advantage went to DeSoto in the top of the 1st inning thanks to Briar Fischer.

 
Hillsboro responded with two runs in the bottom half on an infield hit by Isack Hamilton with the bases loaded, cutting into the 3-0 deficit. Then in the bottom of the 2nd, the Hawks tied it up off the bat of Logan Warren.

 
After the DeSoto bats went quietly in the top of the 3rd, Hillsboro managed to jump out in front for good.

 
Hillsboro pitcher Michael Brewer went through a stretch where he retired 18 consecutive batters before giving way to Logan Warren, who got the final out and the save.

Warren was the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game after going 4-4 at the plate with two doubles, two singles, a run driven in and a run scored.

 
Warren earned his 2nd save of the season and Michael Brewer picked up his 3rd win. Hillsboro improves to 1-0 in the conference and 6-3 overall. The Hawks will face St. Mary’s at home on Tuesday. DeSoto drops to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Dragons return home and face North County on Friday at 4:30.
