Despite so much inclement weather, construction of a new Dent County jail that began in the fall is still on schedule. Presiding county commissioner Darrell Skiles says Septagon Construction, the firm running the project, has done a good job dodging the wet stuff.

The $12.8 million facility that was made possible after Dent County voters approved a pair of sales taxes in April 2017 to cover operations should open in December, but Skiles says it’s not a priority.

Skiles received an update from the construction firm in May and says he will get another status report from project manager Dwight Ramsburg later in June.
