Coverage Of The Black River League Tournament On J98 Begins With The Girls Semifinals

(Ellington) We begin our coverage of the Black River League Tournament at Ellington High School Wednesday evening on J98 The Boot. The girls semifinals are today. Coverage begins with the top seed, and number one ranked in Class One, South Iron Lady Panthers battling the four seed East Carter Lady Redbirds. Then the two seed Ellington Lady Whippets will take on the three seed Bunker Lady Eagles.

South Iron are 14-1 and will return to the court after an eight day break, their longest of the season. Expectations always hover around South Iron basketball, and it’s no different this year. Coach Jimbo Blackwell says the BRL tournament is great preparation for postseason play…

East Carter are 11-4 after defeating Lesterville (75-47) in the first round of the tournament on Monday. Breanna Dohlemann dropped 30 points in the win and Brooklyn Kearbey scored 21 points to become East Carter’s all-time leading scorer…

That was coach Angela Rodgers, who actually played for Jimbo Blackwell at Doniphan High School from 2003 to 2007. This will be their first time coaching against each other.

Our next semifinal features the reigning Class Two runner-ups, and former state champion, Ellington Lady Whippets. Injuries, a younger roster and a bolstered schedule have the Lady Whippets at 7-6 on the year. However, still on the roster is the reigning Dream Team Player of the Year, Kaylee King, who is averaging 35 points-per-game on 51-percent shooting from the field. Coach David Burrows speaks to the talent of the BRL this year and how difficult it’ll be to win the tournament…

Bunker are 11-5 this season and made it to the semifinals after defeating Clearwater by 60 points on Monday. Earlier this season, Ellington beat Bunker 74-59 on the Whippets’ court. Bunker coach Brandon Robinson says they’re looking forward to the rematch.

Coverage of the BRL Tournament begins at 5:15 Wednesday evening on J98 The Boot and MyMoInfo.com.
