Crystal City crosses paths with St. Pius in girls’ hoops on KJFF

(Festus) A pair of girls’ basketball county and conference rivals look to gear up for the home stretch meet Friday when the Crystal City Hornets visit St. Pius Lancers on KJFF.

Both teams have had solid seasons to this point.

Behind the play of juniors Molly Clemmons and Kate Eisenbeis and their combined 31 points per game, Crystal City is 8-8, already more wins than they had last season.

But Hornets head coach Ken Jones says they’ll face a significant test on the road, and that starts with taking care of the basketball.

St. Pius returned top-tier defenders like junior point guard Riley Cappozzo, but they needed to fill the void of AJ Agers, one of the program’s all-time leading scorers.

Enter freshman PJ Krodinger, who leads the team with better than 14 points per game to help the Lancers reach 9-6.

Head coach Aaron Portell says that offense for Krodinger is a product of her playing beyond her years.

The Lancers have won 12 straight over the Hornets over the course of nearly a decade.

Crystal City looks to finally crack the St. Pius code Friday evening.

Coverage starts with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 5:15 on AM 1400 KJFF.
