Crystal City girls’ basketball tries to build off surprise district title

(Crystal City) The Crystal City Hornets are looking for more sustained success in girls’ basketball after a strong finish to last season.

Despite just an 8-21 record, Crystal City won the Class 2 District 4 championship with 4 straight wins on their home floor before the state tournament.

The Hornets pulled it off with mostly freshman and junior starters.

Head coach Ken Jones says that early experience plays an even bigger role in an uncertain year.

Leading scorers Molly Clemmons and Kate Eisenbies return as sophomores after breakout debuts, each scoring almost 10 points per game.

Jones says they’ll only get better.

Crystal City opens its season by participating in the Doe Run Classic in Herculaneum.
