(CRYSTAL CITY) The Crystal City girls track and field team won the Class 1 District 1 tournament this past weekend with 84 points and the boys finished 4th with 66 points.

Standouts for the district champion girls include Michaiah Fels, who was named the Parkland Health Mart Pharmacy Athlete of the Week, as well as sisters Emma and Lily Shirley, and Taylor Sloan.

Head coach Dan Fox shares his thoughts on his team winning a district championship in his first year running the show.

 
Amidst all of the seniors is the aforementioned Lily Shirley, an impressive freshman according to Coach Fox.

 
As for the boys team who came in 4th, Donovan Tullock claimed 1st place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dash, setting a season best in the 200 with a time of 23.43 seconds.

 
Along with Tullock, Sam Smith and Reilley Stephens also qualified for Sectionals in their respective individual events, which was the pole vault for Sam and the discus for Reilley. Crystal City will be participating in the Class 1 Sectionals on Saturday at South Callaway High School in Mokane.
