Crystal City volleyball aiming high alongside new coach Shaffer

(Crystal City) The Crystal City Hornets played well ahead of expectations on the volleyball court in 2019, but now they’re ready to do even more in the spotlight.

The Hornets won 13 matches and a district championship last season on a team with just one senior and 5 freshman.

And while there is change in the form of new head coach Kristin Shaffer, she says having 10 of 12 varsity players back is a huge edge.

Crystal City does lose its leader in kills last season but brings back hitters in senior Annie Waites and sophomores Molly Clemmons, Abbie Edwards and Kate Eisenbeis.

But Shaffer says it all starts with senior setter Mattie Edwards.

For Shaffer, it doesn’t matter that’s she in her first year coaching a relatively young team.

She says her goals are to win another district title and then some.

Crystal City volleyball starts the 2020 season at home against Bismarck on September 3rd.
