Dates Set To Apply For Black Bear & Elk Hunting In Missouri

(Jefferson City) The Missouri Department of Conservation will offer 400 permits for the taking of a maximum of 40 black bears during the 2023 Missouri bear hunt October 16th through the 25th.

Five permits will also be offered to hunt bull elk in Missouri this fall with at least one permit for a qualifying landowner with property in Reynolds, Shannon and Carter counties.

The M.D.C. has designated elk archery season for October 21st through the 29th and the elk firearms season December 9th through the 17th.

Only Missouri residents who will be at least 11 by the first day of the hunt for which they are applying are eligible.

The application period runs May 1st through the 31st.

All permits will be assigned through a random drawing.

There is a fee of 10-dollars per applicant and applicants must select one of the three bear hunting zones.

Those selected will then be eligible to buy a bear hunting permit for 25-dollars.

The M.D.C. also requires a 10-dollar application fee for prospective elk hunters.

Those selected will then be eligible to buy an elk permit for 50-dollars.
