De Soto Man Charged in Road Rage Stabbing Incident in Jefferson County Friday Evening

(De Soto) A De Soto man remains in jail after he allegedly stabbed another man following a road rage incident in the Valle Lake neighborhood outside of De Soto Friday evening.

36-year-old Mark Casteel has been charged with 1 count of Assault in the 1st Degree, a class A felony, and Armed Criminal Action, a class U felony.

The incident started with a road rage conflict between a person on an ATV and Casteel, who was in a passenger car at the time.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell, both parties eventually pulled over and that’s when confrontation escalated.

The victim, a 44-year-old man from De Soto, suffered serious injuries and had to be flown by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment.

It was after the stabbing when Casteel fled the scene but was later arrested Friday night at a home in the 12600 block of Hyfield road in De Soto without incident.

Casteel is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
