(DESOTO) The DeSoto girls cross country team came in 2nd place on Saturday in the Class 3 District 1 meet and will now compete at state along with a pair of male runners. As an added bonus, sophomore Kayla Vogelsang was the district champion and senior Lillie Kaempfe was district runner-up.

DeSoto cross country head coach Aaron Young says that Vogelsang is a “machine.”

Coach Young finds himself at a loss for words sometimes when it comes to talking about Lillie.

On the boy’s side, sophomores Will Kaempfe and Orville “Jimmy” Mann both reached state with finishes of 9th and 12th, respectively.

Coach Young adds that this year is the first time in his 6 years running the cross country program that multiple boys will be competing at state. Will and Jimmy along with the girl’s team will run at the Class 3 state meet on Saturday at Gans-Creek. The girls will begin their run at 11:30 a.m. and the boys at 12:35 p.m.
