DeSoto boys’ basketball looking to make leap

(DeSoto) The DeSoto Dragons are hoping to take some steps forward in boys’ basketball this season.

DeSoto finished 8-17 last year but return most of the same roster.

Dragons head coach Zeb Hammond says getting better starts with being a more aggressive offensive team in the paint.

Leading scorers Nick Krodinger and Jordan Mertens both averaged almost 12 points a game and return for their senior seasons.

But Hammond says his stars have become complete players.

Seniors Aidan Blair and Levi Fischer are also back after combining to average more than 16 points and 7 rebounds per contest.

Hammond believes his team is set up to have plenty in the tank late in the year.

DeSoto opened its season with a 61-53 loss to Hillsboro and will face North County Thursday night.
