Desoto’s Matt Guemmer Hired as SEMO Softball Assistant Coach

(DESOTO) The SEMO softball Redhawks have added a Jefferson County native to their coaching staff. Matt Guemmer coached the DeSoto softball Dragons back in 2014 to a Class 3 state championship in only his first year.

Guemmer is now an assistant coach for the Redhawks. Guemmer comes to Southeast Missouri State after just one season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Virginia Tech Hokies, primarily working with their outfielders

 
Mark Redburn is the softball head coach for SEMO but spent time as an assistant coach for Mizzou softball prior to the gig. Guemmer happened to graduate from Mizzou back in 2013 after serving two years as the Tigers softball student manager.

With that connection and the fact that current Virginia Tech head coach Pete D’Amour also has ties to Mizzou, things started to fall into place…

 
Matt Guemmer will be joining a SEMO softball program that in 2019 finished with a 46-18 overall record and won the Ohio Valley Conference championship, its sixth overall and first since 1999.
