DeSoto’s Mellor racing her way to SEMO track & cross country

One of the DeSoto Dragons‘ top runners will continue her athletic career in college.

Senior Erika Mellor committed to continue running cross country and track & field at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.

Mellor explains that the pandemic played a small role in opening her eyes to a perfect fit at SEMO.

Mellor has been an All-District cross country runner and state qualifier in Classes 3 and 4 during her time at DeSoto.

But she admits her relationship to the sport is not all sunshine and rainbows.

But it’s thanks to her teammates, coaches and family that Mellor says she is able to keep finding that competitive spark.

Mellor has been dealing with injury but will be able to run this spring for the DeSoto track team.

The season was delayed for SEMO Redhawks cross country, but the women have already won their home invitational and finished 4th at the Ohio Valley Championships.
