Dinkins Tops Wakefield in College Meeting of South Iron Grads

The last two Regional Radio Dream Team players of the year went head to head Thursday night in an NCAA Division Two game. Both players graduated from South Iron High School. Freshman Drenin Dinkins got the bragging rights as his team, Southwest Baptist, defeated Drury University and sophomore Brock Wakefield 82-67. Dinkins scored 13 points on 2 for 3 shooting from the field, including 1 for 2 from three. Dinkins made all eight of his free throw attempts and is point two of a percentage point away from leading all of NCAA Division Two in free throw shooting. Wakefield scored two points in the game on one of five shooting. He also pulled down four rebounds. Southwest Baptist and Dinkins improved to 14-6 on the year. Drury and Wakefield fell to 7-13. Dinkins is averaging 10 points and 3.6 rebounds for the Bearcats. He is in St. Louis on Thursday to play at UMSL. Wakefield is averaging nine points and 4.5 rebounds. He is second on the team in assists and leads them in steals. Brock’s next game is Saturday at Rockhurst, but he plays in Rolla on Thursday.
