District 5 softball semis set in Ste. Gen
April 30, 2019 10:00AM CDT

Weather permitting, 2 teams will still be standing and punch their tickets to a championship game when the District 5 spring softball semifinals take place Tuesday night in Ste. Genevieve. Game number one will see top seed Potosi go up against MAAA rival Valle Catholic. The Warriors are 9-11 after defeating Grandview 10-6 in the first round Monday night, and Valle head coach Kurt Basler believes his team won’t be intimidated by the challenge in front of them.
Potosi has been impressive all year long with a 16-1 record and a previous number-one ranking in the state, and head coach Tyler Beers believes it’s because the girls are flying around and letting a carefree attitude translate onto the field.
Semifinal number two will be the third meeting between conference rivals Ste. Genevieve and Central. Since the Dragons earned their first win over the Rebels since 2012 with a win back in March, Central has not lost and is 17-5. Rebels head coach Bryan Wallen says nonetheless his team will have to earn their way back to the district title game.
Ste. Gen comes in at 13-6 after a first-round win over Crystal City. The Dragons and Rebels will collide in the second half of a doubleheader after Potosi faces Valle Catholic. You can hear both semifinals of the District 5 championships Tuesday evening with pregame coverage starting at 3:45 on AM-800 KREI.
