(O’FALLON, Mo.) – The Ellington Whippets baseball team will play for a state championship Friday after earning an 11-6 victory over the Skyline Tigers in the semifinals Thursday on J-98. The game was picked up in the second inning after being suspended due to weather Wednesday. With the score tied at one in the fourth inning, the Whippets tacked on four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer by Cameron Brewer.

But the Whippets weren’t done, as they piled on in the fifth inning. Once again, Brewer came up big in a key spot.

Brewer was the Applebee’s Player of the Game as Ellington improved to 28-1 overall on the season. Whippets coach Jake Hime said this has been a special run for the team and the community.

The Whippets will play for their first-ever state title Friday against 21-7 Seymour at CarShield Field in O’Fallon. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show beginning at 10:45 a.m. on AM-800 KREI.
