For the first time in school history, the Ellington Whippets are heading to the baseball state Final Four after defeating Chaffee 4-2 in the Class 2 state quarterfinals this evening. Despite allowing a home run to leadoff the game, the Whippets showed they have plenty of power of their own in the bottom of the first inning.

Applebee’s Player of the Game Cameron Brewer would pitch 6 strong innings from there to carry Ellington, and the Whippets got another pair of solo homers to go in front for good. The game ended in wild fashion with the Patsy’s Furniture Play of the Game.

Whippets head coach Jake Hime says while his team has reached new heights, this was their goal from the beginning of the season.

The Whippets improve to 27-1. Ellington moves on to the Class 2 state semifinals next Wednesday in O’Fallon to face either Skyline or Adrian. You can hear the game on Regional Radio.
