Ellington Girls Basketball Vies for Class 2 State Title on J-98

(Springfield) The Ellington girls basketball team will try to do something that’s never been done before; win a girls basketball state title. The Whippets will play the Wellington-Napoleon Tigers in the Girls Class 2 State Championship this afternoon on J-98. Ellington torched the nets in their semifinal defeating Blue Eye 68-58 and shooting 50% from deep and 49% overall. Whippets head coach David Burrows says the job is not done.

The Tigers enter the contest at (24-2) on the season after downing Scotland County last night 47-34. This Tiger’s squad is relentless on the defensive side of the ball as they have not allowed more than 35 points to be scored against them in the Class 2 State Tournament and on average only allow 31.4 points per game to opponents.

The Ellington Whippets (22-5) play the Wellington-Napoleon Tigers (24-2) for the Class 2 State Championship today at 4 on J-98 The Boot.
