Ellington, Valle Catholic & West County Advance To State Softball Semifinals, Regional Radio Will Broadcast Games

(Springfield) Three of the best spring softball teams in the state reside in the Regional Radio listening area. Ellington and Valle Catholic will meet in the Class One state semifinals while West County will take on the Ava Bears in the Class Two semifinals on Monday in Springfield.

Ellington (16-6) won a district title for the first time in program history and then run-ruled Plato, 13-3, in five innings in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Coach Chirs Bouma is happy for his girls and the support they’ve gotten from the community.

Valle Catholic (18-3) will also make their first trip to Springfield after defeating Risco, 3-2, in their quarterfinal game. The Warriors scored all their runs in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore pitcher Abree Zipprich struck out 15 batters in a complete game three-hitter. Coach Kurt Basler had high praise for Zipprich.

Ellington defeated Valle Catholic 4-2 back on April 14th. We’ll carry the Class One semifinal on J98 with coverage beginning at 10:45 Monday morning and first pitch at 11:00.

West County (23-3) took care of the Malden Green Wave with a 13-3, five inning victory on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have now won 14 games in a row. Coach C.J. Wright says his girls have a warrior mentality.

West County are making their third appearance in the state semifinals. They finished second in 2015 and fourth in 2016 in Class One. We’ll broadcast the Class Two semifinal between the Bulldogs and Ava Bears (19-6) on AM-800 KREI at 1 o’clock Monday afternoon. Both games can also be heard on MyMyInfo.com.
