Ellington’s Gretchen Hackworth Ends Memorable Basketball Career On Dream Team

(Reynolds County) The Ellington Lady Whippets have been one of the best teams in the state over the last few years and a big reason for their success is because of senior Gretchen Hackworth. She led the team in rebounding en route to a Class 2 state runner-up finish this season but Hackworth was surprised to hear she made the Girls Basketball Dream Team.

Hackworth averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds for Ellington this season. The senior also shot 37.5% from three but she enjoys crashing the boards and the grittiness her team plays with.

Hackworth was one of three seniors on Ellington this season. Along with Laura Gore and Abbi Harper, they created some fun memories on the hardwood.

Her career highlight may have come at the end of her junior season when Ellington won the Class 2 State Championship. Hackworth tells us what she remembers the most from that day.

After graduating, Hackworth plans to pursue a law degree at Mizzou. Ellington finished this season 25-5.
