Ellington’s King Averaged 40 Points in Team’s Wins, Named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Ellington) It was a great bounce-back week for the Ellington girls basketball team last week.

They lost their third-straight game on Monday in a rout against Central, but the Whippets responded with back-to-back commanding victories over Bunker and Van Buren to improve to 4-3.

Leading the rally for Ellington was sophomore guard Kaylee King, who helped the team get back on track and was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

Head coach David Burrows says King had some added motivation this week.

In the team’s two wins, King averaged 40.5 points per game, 4 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 2.5 steals.

She went off in the team’s 65-51 win over Van Buren on Thursday, finishing with 49 points in the game.

Burrows says the scoring is what stands out, but he is most impressed with King’s leadership and drive to win.

As the only freshman to make last year’s Girls Basketball Dream Team, there were high expectations for King coming into this season, and she has matched or exceeded those expectations early on with some tremendous performances.

Burrows says King plays beyond her years and is like a second coach on the court.

As Athlete of the Week, King will receive a T-shirt, a certificate, and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
