Emergency Responders Hold Waterway Safety Press Briefing in Light of Recent Drowning Victims

(Jefferson County) More than 15 emergency response agencies in 3 different counties came together Monday afternoon in Eureka to discuss waterway safety.

This comes after the 4th drowning death reported this year on the Big River.

Corporal Juston Wheetley with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says 2021 is tracking towards having more drowning deaths than each of the last 3 years.

Cedar Hill Fire Protection District Chief Mick Fischer recalls the May 23rd drowning of an 11-year-old boy on the Big River.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released multiple Public Service Announcement videos on its social media accounts about the dangers of swimming in rivers, lakes and streams.

The PSA’s ask that people wear life jackets and always use extra caution and good judgment when swimming in any waterway.
