Fair Grove Defeats St. Pius X In Class 3 Girls Basketball Semifinals
(COLUMBIA) The St. Pius Lady Lancers got off to a slow start Friday afternoon and they couldn’t make a comeback as they lost their state semifinal game in Columbia to Fair Grove 47-19. St. Pius will play in a third-place game tomorrow (Saturday).
Turnovers and foul trouble would be the major problems for the Lady Lancers. St. Pius committed 19 turnovers in the first half 28 total. The Lady Lancers didn’t score a point until five minutes into the ball game while P.J. Krodinger and Brooke Blankenship had three fouls each early in the third quarter.
St. Pius head coach Aaron Portell said Fair Grove was a tough ballclub and his girls ran into foul trouble.
Fair Grove with the win improved their record to 24-7. The Lady Eagles were led by Ashton Bell’s 18 points. St. Pius was led in scoring by Ava Norton’s 6 points, Carlei Clubb scored 5, P.J. Krodinger had 4 points while Brooke Blankenship and Elena Ruble each scored two points.
St. Pius, now with a record of 24-6, will play the loser of the El Dorado Springs vs Centralia semifinal game on Saturday at Noon for third place in girls Class 3.
