Farmington and North County Boys, Potosi and North County Girls All Earn Victories in the Class 4 District 2 Quarterfinals

(Park Hills, Mo.) The first day of the Class 4 District 2 basketball tournament got underway this afternoon with the quarterfinals from Central High School in Park Hills on the MyMoInfo SportsStream.

On the boys side it was Farmington and North County earning wins while for the girls it was Potosi and North County moving on to the semifinals round.

The boys got the day started with the #4 Farmington Knights defeating the #5 DeSoto Dragons by a final score of 79-49.

The Knights led by 11 at halftime, and then Farmington’s Brant Gray erupted for 20 points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Gray was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game as he finished with 22 points.

Knights head coach Terry Noble was pleased with his team’s performance.

Farmington improves to 17-10 on the season and will now face the #1 Central Rebels in the semifinals while DeSoto finshes their season at 8-18.

The second boys game of the afternoon saw the #3 North County Raiders pull off a comeback victory to defeat the #6 Potosi Trojans by a final score of 65-56.

The Trojans led for most of the game before Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game Wil Claywell took over in the fourth quarter.

Claywell finished the game with 23 points.

North County head coach Jimmy Palmer says his team’s intensity changed in the second half.

The Raiders improve to 20-7 on the year and will face the #2 Hillsboro Hawks in the semifinals while Potosi finishes their season at 4-21.

In the first girls quarterfinal of the afternoon the #4 Potosi Trojans topped the #5 DeSoto Dragons by a final score of 60-50.

DeSoto rallied late in the ballgame to keep it close but Potosi’s Olivia Coleman got hot down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Coleman was tabbed the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game as she finished with 23 points in the contest.

Potosi head coach Matt Bradley says he was proud of his team but he knows they can play even better.

The Trojans are now 13-13 on the season and they will take on the #1 Central Rebels in the semifinals while DeSoto finishes the year at 8-18.

In the second girls quarterfinal and the final game of the day, the #3 North County Raiders rolled to victory over the #6 Hillsboro Hawks by a final score of 67-36.

Among some outstanding performances for the Raiders, it was senior forward Kayleigh Winch who shined the brightest.

Winch was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game as she poured in 21 points in the game.

North County head coach Zac McVey says he liked how his team played in the second half.

North County improves to 19-7 on the year and will square off with the #2 Farmington Knights in the semifinals while Hillsboro finishes the season at 4-21.
