Farmington Defeats Festus on Game Winning Buzzer Beater, Will face Cape Central in Semifinals

The Farmington Knights and Festus Tigers did battle for the third time this season last night, this one as part of the Class 5 District 1 Tournament Quarterfinals.  The game was close throughout; neither team trailed by more than double digits.  Both teams displayed outside shooting early on in a back and forth affair.

Farmington had a close lead at the half.  Both teams traded leads throughout the half.  Festus ended up being down 3 with under 30 seconds to go, looking for one last big shot.

Bridgett would sink the free throw to tie the game with 16 seconds left.  Farmington now had an opportunity to win the game.  With Festus’ season on the line, the Knights charged up the court.

Cannon Roth finished with 8 points, every one of them so important for Farmington as they defeated Festus by a final score of 60 to 58.  For Farmington, Logan Schaupert had 19 points, and Cooper Tripp and Max Lamonds each finished with nine.  For Festus, Hayden Bates led all scorers with 20 points, Carter Roth had 16, setting the single season 3 point record for Festus in the process with 88 made threes this season, and Drew Johnson had 9.  For Head Coach Garrett Callahan of Farmington, the final play was something that had to be changed quickly.

The Farmington Knights will play once again at North County, with their opponents this time being the two seed Cape Central Tigers.  Tipoff is set for Saturday at 3:30 pm.
