Farmington-Hillsboro, DeSoto-Cape Central as Class 5 District 1 quarters continue on Regional Radio

(Festus) The Class 5 District 1 baseball quarterfinals continue Tuesday on KJFF with another doubleheader.

In the first game, the fifth-seeded Farmington Knights take on the number-four-seed Hillsboro Hawks.

Farmington slumped down the stretch of the regular season to finish 7-15.

Despite young stars emerging like freshman Jackson McDowell and sophomore Jeremiah Cunningham, the Knights have lost 5 straight games and nine of the last 10.

But head coach Josh Hoehn believes the team’s record doesn’t show how close they’re coming to turning all that turmoil into triumph.

Hillsboro won five of its final 9 games after an 8-game losing streak dropped them to 2-10.

Senior Andrew Brody and juniors Austin Romaine and Jaxin Patterson are swinging it well, but the Hawks know they’ll need pitching to put together a postseason push.

Head coach Kevin Lucas thinks the pieces are in place on the pitching staff.

In game number two, the third-seeded DeSoto Dragons take on sixth-seeded Cape Central.

DeSoto lost six of its last eight to fall to 8-13 despite strong years senior pitchers Caleb Coleman and Cody DeClue.

But one of those 2 wins was an extra-inning victory over Cape Central earlier this month.

Dragons head coach Matt Buechting says having their aces in tow could be the difference in handing the Tigers a sixth straight loss.

DeSoto duels Cape Central after Farmington faces Hillsboro Tuesday afternoon.

Coverage from the Class 5 District 1 baseball tournament begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 4:15 on AM 1400 KJFF and AM 800 KREI.
