Farmington, Hillsboro volleyball look to conquer Sectional Saturday on MyMoInfo SportStream

(Fenton) A spot in the MSHSAA Class 4 volleyball State Championships could be waiting for the Farmington Knights and Hillsboro Hawks if they find a way to win on Sectional Saturday on the MyMoInfo SportStream.

The afternoon begins when Farmington faces sectional host Rockwood Summit.

Behind sophomore hitters Jade Roth, Jelena Gray and Grace Duncan, the Knights won their 9th district title in the last 11 years and claimed District 1 with a 4-set victory over Perryville Tuesday night.

Head coach Haley Baker says it’s been as up-and-down a season as their 13-12-2 record indicates, but it makes this moment just even sweeter.

The Summit Falcons are 5-9 and one of numerous St. Louis County schools that got a late start to the season because of COVID-19.

While Farmington relies on youth, Hillsboro will look to veteran leadership when the Hawks face Nerinx Hall in sectionals.

Hillsboro won its first district championship since 1997 by beating St. Pius in 4 sets Wednesday evening thanks to seniors Mackenzie Baker, Bella Lewis, Sophia Marchetti and Evie Roland.

But despite the unfamiliar territory, Hawks head coach Erin Boss says she’s telling her team, “why not us?”

Nerinx Hall enters at 9-3.

Either the Markers or Hillsboro faces the winner between Farmington and Summit in a Class 4 state quarterfinal later Saturday evening.

We’ll have coverage of all the Sectional Saturday action starting at 12:15 online on the MyMoInfo SportStream.
