Farmington’s Maddox Brenneke Among The Local Athletes Participating In State Tennis Tournament This Week

(Farmington) Farmington junior Maddox Brenneke is one of six local athletes who will be competing at the state tennis tournament this week in Springfield.

Brenneke played in the state doubles tournament his freshman and sophomore years, but he’ll compete in singles this time around. His coach, Andrew Canter, says that was goal from the start of this season.

Brenneke fell to Charlie West of Cape Notre Dame in the district championship, but a top-two finish secured his spot in the Class Two state tournament beginning this Thursday at the Cooper Tennis Complex. Canter says Brenneks’s growth on the mental side of the game has helped take his game to another level.

Canter says the pactice begins Monday. He tells us about Brenneke’s preparation this week, which includes bringing teammate and fellow junior Jimmy Coleman along to Springfield.

Canter tells us how the sixteen-man bracket gets seeded.

The Farmington tennis team fell in the Class 2 District 1 championship match to Cape Notre Dame 5-0 on Wednesday.

Along with Brenneke, senior Evan Veach from North County will play in the Class 1 state singles tournament after winning his sectional match on Friday. Two doubles teams, senior Noah Silvy and junior Wren Blount from Arcadia Valley, and juniors Draven Griffin and Isaiah Marty from Potosi, won their sectional matches and will compete in the Class 1 tournament beginning Friday.
