Festus 253 looks to return to American Legion glory

Festus Post 253 is back to American Legion baseball, and back to setting their sights high on team success.

After reaching the Legion World Series during their last full sponsored season in 2019, Festus brings back plenty of talent hunting for another district title.

253 assistant coach Drew Horrell says pitching will be a big key to their success.

The 253 offense can also be formidable, with stars like former Jefferson Blue Jay Levi Ebersoldt, Festus Tigers graduate Collin Reando and incoming Crystal City Hornets senior Nate Pruneau creating a deep lineup.

But Horrell says the table-setting duo of Festus’ Cole Wagner and Jefferson’s Colby Ott is what really make them dangerous.

Mix in other high school stars like Herculaneum Blackcats alum Cole Meyers and incoming Festus senior Laine Axtetter, and there’s no reason this group can’t shoot for the same accomplishments as past 253 clubs.

But Horrell says, right now, they’re taking it one game at a time.

Festus Post 253 won its first 4 games of the season, including two against District 13 rivals.
