Festus Battles Windsor to 2-0 Victory

(FESTUS)    The Festus Tigers beat the Windsor Owls 2-0 Tuesday and for the second day in a row both teams found themselves locked into pitching duels. The Owls beat Festus  2-1 on Monday. Yesterday, the game was scoreless until the Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead. In the top of the seventh, the Owls managed to draw two, two out walks but both men were stranded as Festus used Troy Skaggs and Trenton Young in relief to end the game. The winning pitcher was sophomore lefty Mason Schirmer who in the 6th doubled and then scored on a double by Brayden Montgomery. Montgomery scored the game’s second run on a base hit by Brady Nolen.

According to Festus head Coach Jeff Montgomery, Schirmer left the game on a pitch count issue. Schirmer pitched five and two thirds innings, gave up two hits, no runs, walked two and struck out 9.

The Owls’ Austin Happel, a senior, started the game and was pulled after facing two batters in the sixth. He gave up five hits, the two runs, walked 4 and fanned 4.

Owls coach Randy Green said his team had an opportunity in the 7th but couldn’t capitalize like the Owls did the day before.

Festus coach Jeff Montgomery, says the two teams really battled the past two days.

Festus is now 8-5 and Windsor slips to 7-5. Up next for the Tigers is a wooden bat tournament in Farmington beginning on Friday, while the Owls will host MICDS on Friday.
