(FESTUS) The Festus boys and girls cross country teams will be running at the Class 3 State Meet on Saturday after each one secured a District 1 championship last Saturday.

The girls won for the first time since 2008 and the boys won their 4th straight. Head Coach Bryant Wright was happy for the girls to see them end the drought.

The top 4 runners for the Lady Tigers were Allison Faerber who finished 3rd, Sophia Leftwich who finished 6th, Demi White who placed 12th, and Dari White who was 15th. Coach Wright thought that Leftwich, who is a senior, definitely stood out.

The other Festus female runners on this year’s district championship team are Molly McDaniel, Kaylea Holmes, and Yasmine Schaaf.

The boy’s team also won districts with 5 guys finishing in the Top 10. Freshman Cullen Krieg was 3rd, senior Simon Ogle was 4th, sophomore Jacob Meyers was 5th, Garrett Rhine was 6th, and Nathan Wolk was 10th.

Coach Wright is pleased with the performances, but winning districts is just step one.

The other Tiger runners were Ian Schram who came in 11th and Dominik Kayser who finished 13th. Freshman Cullen Krieg continues to impress Coach Wright.

The Festus girls cross country team will have their Class 3 State race begin tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 11:30 and the boys will start theirs at 12:35 in the afternoon. The State meet is at Gans Creek in Columbia.
