Festus boys’ hoops wins wild shootout with Windsor on KJFF

(Festus) The Festus Tigers started conference play off with a shootout but still managed to knock off the Windsor Owls Tuesday night on KJFF.

Windsor came out scorching hot from the field and lead by as much as 14 in the second quarter, but Festus clawed back into the game before halftime behind junior Connor Westhoff.

Westhoff hit six 3-pointers in total in the game.

The Tigers seemed to be taking control for themselves during the third quarter.

But star senior guard Sonny Amabile ensured the Owls would be right back in the game heading into the final quarter of play.

Amabile finished with a game-high 33 points and got Windsor within a score in the minute.

But Westhoff put the game away for Festus.

Westhoff finished with 31 points and was named the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Tigers head coach Jason Therrell said his junior guard provided a huge boost while his team tried to keep pace with the Owls’ fast start.

Windsor falls to 3-4 and will next face Hillsboro on Friday.

Festus improves to 4-2 and will look to get to 2-0 in the JCAA Large-School Division when they travel to Perryville on Friday night.
