(Columbia) The Festus Tigers have once again captured the team state championship in boys’ cross country.
Festus won its whopping 7th state team title Friday in Columbia, this one in Class 4 after the last six were in Class 3.
Tigers head coach Bryant Wright says his runners are truly aware of that they’re part of a dynasty and that they want to maintain that legacy.
Leading the way for Festus was sophomore Cullen Krieg, who finished second overall in the individual standings in a time of just over 16 minutes.
Sophomore Ian Schram, who won the Class 4 District 1 championship earlier this month, finished eighth overall in Class 4.
Wright says his young stars have made it clear they plan on being as good as any Tiger runner ever.
But Wright also says none of this is possible if juniors Jacob Meyers, Nathan Wolk, Anthony Pittman, Ethan James and Peyton Willis hadn’t been such great leaders.
The Festus girls’ cross country team also finished 6th in the Class 4 team standings.
Senior Demi White had the top time for the Tigers in just over 20 minutes, just missing out on all-state honors but still finishing 27th.
